Happy Release Day to Pushing the Line by Kimberly Kincaid! Amber's review.

Pushing the Line (#4 in The Line Series) by Kimberly Kincaid

Free-spirited artist Harper McGee is happy to go wherever the wind takes her…until her flight pattern sends her back to Brentsville, New York for her beloved grandmother's funeral. Harper’s grief turns to shock, however, when she discovers her grandmother has named her sole proprietor of her candy shop, Luscious. But she has no intention of being anchored to one place, and anyway, she doesn’t know the first thing about running a kitchen or a business. Selling Luscious is the only viable option— until the shop catches fire due to old wiring. Fixing the damage requires major work, and if Harper wants to put it on the market, she needs major help.

Thrill-seeking firefighter Aaron Fisher has never walked away from a challenge or a friend. So when a fellow firefighter is hurt on a call and can’t complete a side job for his contracting company, Aaron’s quick to jump in. He’s done plenty of fix ‘er ups for his buddy in the past, and despite his silver spoon upbringing and his no-holds-barred attitude, swinging a hammer suits Aaron just fine. That is, until he discovers the client is the same impetuous woman he forcibly dragged from the flames of Brentsville’s local candy shop.

The more time Harper and Aaron spend at Luscious, the hotter their attraction burns, daring them both to shed their tough outer layers to reveal the tender desires beneath. But when a buyer makes Harper the offer of a lifetime, she must choose between roots and wings. Can two people who live in the moment learn to see past the moment, or will Aaron and Harper always live their lives pushing the line?

Review by Amber Presley Boyd

Pushing the Line is the fourth novella in Kimberly’s The Line series. The series has focused on citizens in Brentsville. This story centers on Harper McGee and Aaron Fisher. Harper is a never stay too long in one place artist and Aaron is a Lieutenant with the Brentsville Fire Department. They are brought together first when Aaron saves Harper, somewhat unwillingly, from a fire and secondly when Aaron leads the construction crew that repairs the shop Harper has just inherited from her grandmother. To say the chemistry was incendiary would be accurate. Though neither seems willing to cross the line initially.

Harper admits that “she’s never really lived anywhere” but it’s easy to see that Brentsville and Luscious, the candy shop that has been in her family for generations are the only places that give her any semblance of peace. Her parents basically abandoned her and the only happy memories she seems to have are of being with her grandmother, Izzy, and helping to create magic at the candy shop. Harper is lost, but she doesn’t want to slow down long enough to see or admit that fact, that is until she meets and begins to spend time with Aaron. Aaron is drawn to Harper from the word go but is trying to keep business separate from his persona life, at least until he can’t resist anymore.  While they both go into the relationship knowing that Harper is only in town until the repairs are done and Luscious is sold, they can’t stay away from each other. And while Harper begins to fear what would happen if she stays, Aaron fears what his heart will feel if she leaves. Harper is scared. Scared if she slows down and really has a life that it will implode like her parents’ did. Scared to trust anyone but herself because everyone in her world, save Izzy has abandoned her and felt she wasn’t worth it. Aaron sees past all that and tries to get her to take a chance with him. The journey to get there is filled with many a sweet, sometimes sticky and always combustible set of interactions! I really liked this story a lot and it was a definite makes me happy oh and by the way can I get some of those salted caramels and throw in some pecan clusters too!! So grab your favorite sweets and a glass (or 3) of wine and enjoy this fun read! And if you haven’t read the other novellas in this series, no fear they can be read as standalones.

ABOUT KIMBERLY KINCAID
Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance novels that split the difference between sexy and sweet, taking the traditional idea of boy-meets-girl and infusing it with a sassy magic all her own. She believes in fiery yet flawed characters destined for a crash-course in falling in love-- usually the hard way-- and injects her trademark humor as well as poignant touches into her writing to create her stories. Kimberly's writing journey has led down some bumpy roads (that first manuscript is under the bed, where it is very likely to stay), but there has been some fresh pavement too (her second manuscript earned her very first contest final, and landed the fantastic Maureen Walters at the Curtis Brown Literary Agency). One thing is certain -- the wild ride of being a writer is a lot richer in both its ups and downs because of friends and readers along the path. When Kimberly's not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as "The Pleather Bomber", she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to eclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. She resides in northern Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters. About Kimberly Kincaid
